BIO

Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, James Jarrett is a self-educated abstract artist. His father's family moved to California in the late 1800's, and his mother's family settled farmland outside of Portland, Oregon in the mid 1800's. James spent his childhood traveling back and forth between California and Oregon where he was influenced by California's amazing light, sky and coastline; and the vast fields of flowers, and berries produced on the family farm in the North West.

The Jarrett family moved to Europe in 1972 and for five years James traveled and was inspired by art and architecture throughout Europe. James studied theater arts at Santa Clara University, in California and The Neighborhood Playhouse in New York. After countless visits to New York museums and galleries, James was inspired to return to his native Bay Area in California and pursue painting.

James exhibited his work in various alternative spaces and gained success by building up a base of loyal collectors, including author Danielle Steel. Steel opened a gallery in San Francisco in 2003 and represented James' work for 3 years, and was one of Steel Gallery's top selling artists.

James Jarrett paintings sell throughout the United States and internationally. Several prestigious private art collections continue to expand with Mr. Jarrett's work. James currently works in his studio in San Francisco, California.
